1985 Gibson XPL Custom Explorer Custom Shop
Rocks! Rare! - Arctic White
Maybe the ultimate shredder/Metal guitar from Gibson? Made by Nashville Custom Shop in 1985 and 1986 only, pretty rare per Gibson a limited run of 200; Arctic white that is beautifully aged after 35+ years, I have not seen another exactly like this one, with the black appointments (including Grover tuners) and Kahler tremolo system with locking nut. It sports the Custom Shop decal on back of headstock; the pickups are from the Tim Shaw era, and appear to be 490 and 500T “dirty fingers”, as you’d expect for an Explorer (on back, they are dated 2/85 and both have resistance of around 16 ohms). The neck, ebony fingerboard and frets are all in EX condition, and the frets are big and wide; Original wiring and electronics-- the original Billings, MT owner's name is penned on back of backplate (could easily be removed, but I like leaving things as they are, part of the history). It sounds and plays real nice; Cosmetically, there are a couple dings on corners, some checking and also some discoloration near one PU (the worst thing), probably a reaction to some adhesive tape that held a Roland synth... but I'd still call it overall "VG+/EX-"; Gibson OHS; Gibson ID’d that this was made in Nashville Custom Shop (pics)
