1906 Martin 0-18
Rare Brazilian Gem, Signed inside! -
Amazing guitar w/ original soft canvas case (opens at bottom); only 48 of these were made; in VG condition (7-8 tight cracks, only one small one on top and most of original finish); has date & ’FHM’ initials and 1906 date inside under top (FHM=Frank Henry Martin, one of the founders); some neck work very nicely done (looks like orig. ebony fretboard was planed and rebuilt/refretted with nice high frets; back of neck ’ mahogany-- has worn, possibly original finish; this is NOT a V-neck; very clean inside, and smells wonderful!; Adirondack spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood (until 1917); 13.5 inches at lower bout; simple concentric circles around soundhole rosewood veneer on slotted headstock and rosewood/birch binding/purfling; there is a simple, thin center strip on back, and ebony heel cap and an ebony/birch inlay across bottom of guitar where end-pin is; ’Martin’ stamps on back of headstock and inside; tuners look to be original, like others I’ve seen; dot markers at 5/7/9 (correct for era); the bridge has 2 ’pyramids’ (not certain if original, they rarely are), and the bridge pins look old; no evidence of neck reset. Amazingly light and resonant! Had one crack repaired; no other cracks need attention.
